About SFNTF

The San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation (SFNTF) is dedicated to preserving and maintaining the City's last remaining neighborhood cinemas. Movie theaters make important contributions to the unique character of San Francisco's neighborhoods and are important economic engines for local commercial districts. Today, only a dozen neighborhood movie theaters remain in San Francisco.

Through its Board of Directors and general membership SFNTF seeks to fulfill its mission by engaging in a number of activities including:

* Working with Neighborhood Theater owners and operators to promote neighborhood theaters and help assure their continued success.

* Working with local government to establish reasonable policies to facilitate the preservation and continued operation of neighborhood theaters.

* Working with community leaders, neighborhood organizations and theater owners/operators to develop creative plans to keep neighborhood theaters operating.

SFNTF Accomplishments:

* Worked with the S.F. Board of Supervisors to develop legislation to modify the S.F. Planning Code to provide new protections for neighborhood movie theaters.

* Developed a plan to preserve the Cinema 21 on Chestnut Street.

* Worked with local preservation groups to gain local landmark status for the New Mission Theatre.

* Presents the first annual Film Night in the Park outdoor film series in S.F. attracting over 10,000 people to films in Washington Sq. Park, Dolores Park and Union Square each year.
